Holy Isle Project, Arran Located off the west coast of Scotland, Holy Isle has an ancient spiritual heritage stretching back to the 6th century. Visitors are welcome all year round.

At the north of the island there is the Centre for World Peace and Health where an ongoing retreat and course programme takes place. We also welcome guests to stay at the Centre for personal retreats or holiday breaks. A closed Buddhist retreat takes place at the south of the island. As well as staying at the Centre, you are invited to visit Holy Isle for the day. The island is divided into severa

l areas, some of which are reserved for birds and animals, others for our native tree planting programme. We request visitors to stay on the paths and not to bring animals onto the island. The Project:

The Holy Isle Project is directed by Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist meditation master in the Kagyu tradition and is open to all, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. Since Rokpa Trust bought the Holy Isle in 1992 it has been Lama Yeshe’s intention to provide an ecological sustainable environment where individuals can develop and experience inner peace, regardless of their background or spiritual tradition. The Centre for World Peace and Health is open to people of all faiths. This is in keeping with his wish to make the island available to as wide a group of people as possible. The stewardship and care of Holy Isle’s beautiful natural environment is high on Lama Yeshe’s agenda. With a far reaching vision, the Holy Isle Project is working to address the spiritual value of the land through restoring and conserving the natural ecology. The Centre:

The Centre for World Peace and Health is located at the North end of Holy Isle and is open to visitors throughout most of the year. There is an ongoing retreat and course programme and visitors are welcome to stay at the Centre for their own personal retreat or holiday breaks as well as taking part in one of the many courses on offer from March through to October. Accommodation and full board can be provided for over 60 guests.

🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️VOLUNTEERS WANTED! 🙋‍♂️ 🙋‍♀️

Would you like to experience a different way of life, as part of a small community on an island in Scotland??
We need enthusiastic, easygoing people to help our centre grow and thrive. No experience is necessary, but any is very welcome. A willingness to learn, give your time and energy for the benefit of the island, the community, and our guests is what we wish for.
Volunteers are needed in all departments but especially housecare, gardening, general maintenance (inc electrician/plumber) office and environmental work. A two weeks trial period is required initially and we will see what happens from there...opportunities for short term and longer term stays are available 🙏

Bond And Free

Love has earth to which she clings
With hills and circling arms about—
Wall within wall to shut fear out.
But Thought has need of no such things,
For Thought has a pair of dauntless wings.

On snow and sand and turn, I see
Where Love has left a printed trace
With straining in the world's embrace.
And such is Love and glad to be
But Thought has shaken his ankles free.

Thought cleaves the interstellar gloom
And sits in Sirius' disc all night,

Back past the sun to an earthly room.

🌧️ Urgent Help for Flood Victims in Nepal 🌧️

The death toll from severe floods and landslides in Kathmandu continues to rise. Many people are missing, and numerous families have lost everything—their homes, belongings, and sense of security. This natural disaster is being described as the worst of its kind in the region in years.

The ROKPA team on the ground is providing vital emergency aid in the severely affected region of "Kavre Panauti," helping 250 families with food, clean water, hygiene kits, and blankets. But much more help is needed!

It’s not how much we have donated to the temple, how many retreats we have sat, or how long we practise meditation every day, but whether our hearts are naturally becoming more kind. Do we spontaneously think more of others than ourselves? When anger or greed arises, do we recognise it? Are we able to let go? Are we cultivating minds that do not cling? These are the questions we need to ask ourselves to know whether or not we are truly on the right path.

A beautiful calm evening 🙏 feeling blessed...

Pretty sure this is a sea gooseberry (Pleurobrachia pileus) Seen next to the jetty here on Holy Isle. These beautiful creatures shimmer with rainbows colours as their combs, which they use to propel themselves through the water, refract light. Music credit- Slo mo crumpet falling. Oh no. Joe Wyand
